Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery

With a renowned cardiothoracic unit, our hospital is considered as amongst the best invasive cardiology treatment hospital in Mumbai. Our cardiothoracic surgeons work closely with cardiologists, giving the patients the best possible treatment and seamless experience.

We have two regular cardiac surgical operation theatres and the third one is available to us for thoracic and vascular surgery.

We have the largest series of radial artery grafts in the country. In addition to this, we also routinely perform surgeries for LV aneurysm and post AMI mechanical complications of the heart.

Following heart conditions are treated at the unit;

  • Aortic Diseases: This is the condition in which the aorta is affected. Aorta is the main artery that carry blood from heart to the body.
  • Cardiomyopathy: A heart muscle disease that does not allow your heart to function in normal manner.
  • Congenital Heart Illnesses: This is heat defects that are seen in a child from birth and are structural issues.
  • Coronary Artery Diseases: This is blockage or narrowing of the artery that supplies blood to your heart.
  • Heart Failure:  A condition when the heart  muscle allow proper pumping of the blood.
  • Pericarditis: It is an inflammation of the covering of heart.
  • Valvular Heart Disease: This includes damage or improper functioning of the valve or valves of the heart.
  • Open and Closed heart surgeries: Open heart surgery involves stopping the heart temporarily under controlled conditions using heart-lung bypass machine. It involves opening the chest to perform surgeries like heart transplant, repair or replace heart valves etc. whereas closed heart surgeries does not involve opening the heart itself but the chest is opened and it does not require heart-lung bypass machine.
  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting): We specialise in CABG procedures, effectively by passing blocked coronary arteries to improve blood flow to the heart, relieving symptoms of coronary artery disease.
  • Valve replacement and repairs: This valve repair surgery is done to fix the damaged valve while keeping the most of the patient’s tissues intact, however, replacement valve surgery involves replacing the damaged valve with other biological or mechanical valve.
  • Transmyocardial revascularization (TMR): It is a surgical procedure were in carbon dioxide laser is used to create channels through heart muscle and into left ventrical.
  • Myectomy / myotomy: Surgical procedure to remove the enlarged portion of heart wall.
  • Aortic surgery: It is done to repair any aneurysm i.e breakage of a stretched aorta.
  • Aortic valve surgery: Surgery of heart to treat bicuspid valves, congenital aortic valve diseases, aortic valve stenosis / regurgitation.
  • Beating Heart Bypass Surgery: This surgery is performed without the traditional method of using cardiopulmonary bypass (heart-lung machine) but with on devices called stabilisers without stopping the heartbeat.
  • Aortic Aneurysm treatment: The treatment will involve either medicine or surgical intervention based on the risk assessment by the Cardiologist.

Q1. What technologies are available to treat heart disease in Hinduja Hospital?
Ans. Hinduja Hospital, a heart specialist hospital in Mumbai, offers cutting-edge technologies for heart disease treatment, including:

  • Coronary Interventions
  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Electrophysiology
  • Heart Transplantation
  • High-resolution echocardiography, cardiac MRI and CT angiography for accurate diagnosis and monitoring.

Q2. Can heart valve diseases recur after treatment?

Ans. Indeed, cardiac valve disorders can return even after treatment, especially if the prosthetic valve deteriorates over time or if the underlying cause—such as an infection or degenerative changes—persists. Routine follow-up visits with a cardiologist are important to maintain adequate care and check for recurrence.

Q3. Is it possible to reduce the risk of heart disease?

Ans. Yes, leading a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a balanced diet low in cholesterol and saturated fats, maintaining a healthy weight, abstaining from smoking, managing stress, and managing medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol with medication and routine monitoring can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
